We began serving pies to our guests at Byrdir a few years ago, initially prompted by the number of restaurants the town lost during and shortly after the lockdown. There was barely anywhere to eat in the old town and it was adversely affecting our visitors’ holiday experience. The idea was to offer them food that not only tasted great, but was also good value for money. We experimented with different products for some months before we settled on this pie menu – comfort food of the highest quality.
Our menu (available by clicking the button above) went down so well with our guests that we decided to open it up to other visitors to the town. Last year we served both locals and holidaymakers as well as our Byrdir residents. Of course, we can only cater for so many diners so booking is essential. It also takes a fair while to cook the pies, so pre-ordering is also essential. It would be impossible to keep our whole range of pies pre-cooked. For our opening times, please check the Byrdir House, Harlech, Facebook page or telephone the number below. Bookings can be taken Monday to Saturday 5.00 pm - 8.00 pm. Sunday lunchtime 12 noon - 2.30 pm. On arrival we will show you to the bar and your meals will be served around 15-20 minutes afterwards.
At Byrdir, we use only the best pie-makers, who cater for those who love pies made properly, paying respect to tradition and history. Our standard pies are hand made in a little bakery nestled between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. All of the beef comes from heritage and rare breeds and is bought from local farms. It is guaranteed to be 100% free range from cattle raised on pastures, never in feed lots or sheds. These types of cattle are a world away from the mass-produced beef commonly sold in supermarkets. All of the chicken is free range and fed on a forage diet supplemented with over ten varieties of fresh herbs from a nearby farm. The pork has been outdoor bred and is fully free range. Only 1-2% of pigs are produced in this way in the whole of the UK. The difference shows in the exceptional quality of the pork.
We also offer vegetarian and vegan pies, and cater for those who have a sensitivity to gluten. Our gluten-free pies are made by Baked to Taste, very much a non-traditional baskery. Baked to Taste have provided a haven for gluten-free and coeliac eaters, with zero compromise on flavour and texture. Their 100% gluten-free and wheat-free kitchen in Devon is home to their quest to make the best food they are able to create. We feel that these pies are far superior to your average, shop-bought, gluten-free products.
Our bar can stay open until 11.00 pm if you wish to use it after your meal. This is ideal for a birthday party or event.
